Whilst founders come in all shapes and sizes, we wanted to find out what specific personality traits / characteristics are necessary or desirable to make someone destined to be a founder of their own company.
Here are some of the trends which we have identified:
Risk Takers
Perhaps it goes without saying that entering into any type of business venture can carry risks, but the typical successful founder is someone who is unafraid of risk (and maybe even embraces it for the eventual reward / payout).
Customer-Focused
Whilst it can be the case that we sometimes like to think we know best (particularly when, as stated above, we have taken all the risks in starting a new business), ultimately the success or failure of the business will in large part depend on the positive experience of the customer. This means that the customers feedback should be at the center of the business and drive any innovation / changes during the life of the company.
Delegation
Delegation is commonly referred to as an art and it can be very tempting to overly manage the business. However, as the founder, you will be focused on driving new business and so it can be better to ensure that your team is properly delegated to perform their duties independently of the founder’s role.
